Ortho Evra Patch "Freaked Me Out"

08/04/2008- Oklahoma City, OK: When Gina first heard about the Ortho Evra Patch and its ease of use, she thought, "cool" and used it for a few years. But an incident happened when she was 25 that made her take it off--permanently. Gina believes she suffered a stroke.

"About five years ago I was prescribed the Patch but I started feeling sick, so I would take it off and put it back on," says Gina. "At that time I was a restaurant manager and something happened when I opened one morning that I will never forget…

I remember like it was yesterday. I started to feel shaky and dizzy, for absolutely no reason. Then the phone rang but when I answered it I started babbling and my speech was slurred. I was aware of trying to talk and not forming words—I had no control. Then I crawled from the dining room to the office because I couldn't even walk. Luckily I took it off that day for good, before I saw my doctor.

Just recently I saw an ad about the possible side effects from the Ortho Evra Patch, including stroke. My reaction: Ohmygod, I was astounded! That was the first time I'd heard of any side effects. Then I went online and read about the number of women who had suffered from taking the Patch. I had no idea how dangerous it is. When my doctor prescribed the Ortho Evra Patch she just told me how to wear it; I would remember if she told me about blood clots and strokes as a result of taking it.

'Oh, that's cool,' I first thought, when I heard about the Patch, 'You don't have to take a pill every day'. It didn't stay cool for long. It didn't occur to me that I could have died until I started reading about the Patch. When something like this happens, you just think it happens to yourself until you read about others. To think that women have died, it is so sad. I wonder how many of those women had symptoms similar to what happened to me that day at work."
